Can I get Pay-Per-View or premium movie channels without digital cable?
Cable offers access to Pay-Per-View, Video On Demand and premium movie channels. Unfortunately, you can't get these channels without a cable box. This means upgrading to digital cable since most analog boxes have been phased out.

Most of the above programming requires to-way interaction between your TV and the cable company. Since your TV can't do this by itself, you'll need the box to make it happen. Cable card enabled TVs will soon be widely available that will allow both digital cable service and interactive programming to be obtained without the extra box. However, the external box is currently required for most users.
