If my local channels aren't available via satellite in my area, what are my options?
Some TV markets aren't available via satellite. However there are other options.

Lifeline Cable Service

Cable companies don't usually advertise it, but they often offer a $10 - $15 a month package that includes only the local stations and a few other popular channels. If they can't have you as a full customer, they'll be glad to take any money they can get.

Over-the-Air

Antennas have come a long way from those giant metal trees that were common a few decades ago. Those units still do the job, but smaller, sleaker antenna choices are available. Many don't even look like antennas. Set top units are more efficient and powerful than ever, so you may not need an outdoor model. There are also models intended to be attached to your satellite dish. If you can get a good signal from your local stations' towers, this may be the way to go. Best of all, the programming is free. People often choose this method for getting HDTV programming from the local digital stations due to the higher image quality over satellite or cable feeds.
