GENERAL INFO.
What are dual-layer DVD recorders?
Recorded movies on DVD are contained on dual-layer discs. This means there is more capacity than with normal recordable DVDs. Enter dual-layer recordable DVD.

Single layer recordable DVDs only have 4.7GB of space for video. A dual layer disc contains about twice that amount making it possible to make backup copies of you DVDs without recompressioning them.

To make a dual-layered DVD, you need both a compatable recorder and a dual-layer disc. The layer closest to the laser is semi-transparent so the laser can be refocused through it to the second layer.
