Why might I want a large hard drive?
A computer hard drive is like a file cabinet to store all the information contained on your computer. Like a file cabinet, there is only so much room for the things you wish to store in it. When you run out of room, you're left with two choices: throw some stuff away, or get another cabinet.

By getting a large drive, you set yourself up with a lot of extra room. Unlike a file cabinet, the physical size of the drive doesn't change, so you won't need extra room in your case for all that extra room on the drive. Over time, your drive will fill up and the extra space will come in handy.

If you take digital photos (or plan to), you'll need a large drive to store those pictures. In addition, editing digital video takes up a huge amount of disk space.

When choosing the size of your hard drive for a new system, consider the cost of a large drive to start, compared withupgrading later. In the end, it may be more affordable to go big now, rather than later. In addition, keep in mind that hard drives simply work better when they have a larger amount of empty space on them. As a result, even if you never use the space, your system will run more smoothly.
