Should I choose a laser or inkjet printer?
Just about everyone needs a printer at some point. The question is, should you go laser or inkjet?

Laser printers are the most economical way to print black and white documents. Though the cartridges seem expensive, they produce many more prints than inkjet cartridges do. This savings will also make up for the slightly higher cost of the printer.

If you need a color printer, go with an inkjet printer. The cost of color laser printers is still much too high to justify it for most people.

One option to consider: If you only need a color printer for photos, consider getting a black and white laser printer for most tasks and using the printing facilities at your local drug store for the photos. Even with the cost of printing the photos, you may still make out better in the end due to the amount of ink you'll use printing photos yourself. Photos use a great deal of ink, and cartridges are often $30 or more to replace.
