How can I find out whether or not my computer is secure?

Taking security precautions with your computer is important, but how can you be sure what you've done is effective? The best way is to test for vulnerabilities.

There are a couple of good sites for checking for security issues. The best site for finding out how vulnerable your system is to hackers is Gibson Research Company's grc.com test site. The site can safely scan your connection to find out if it is open to hackers. This site doesn't do anything to harm your system. It merely tells you if you're vulnerable.

Another good site for testing all your computer's settings and hardware is PC Pitstop.

One final way to test your computer using one of the security sites from either Symantec or McAfee. These sites allow you to test your system without actually installing their products.
