What are News Groups?

News groups are accessed through your e-mail client. They often resemble one of those big public bulletin boards you might find outside your local grocery store. News groups are topic-based and are like a simple forum. You can post messages, photos, links and even trade files.

News groups can contain ordinary everyday information and can also consist of rather strange and bizarre topics. There are no ratings or moderators, so watch out what you click on. Like other parts of the Internet, one huge draw of news groups is pornography, not all of which is legal. However, not all topics fall into that category. Topics as regular as bowling or knitting can be found along side other less innocent subjects.
