What is the difference between a power strip and a surge/spike strip?
While all surge/spike strips are also power strips, not all power strips offer surge/spike protection.

Surge/spike strips protect electronics from jumps in electrical power levels. These happen frequently and the protector will absorb and safely release them, rather than pass them straight to an electrical device.

A standard power strip is merely an oultet divider. All these devices do is split one outlet into several. They offer no protection to the devices plugged into it.

One important thing to consider is a surge/spike strip will lose its ability to protect equipmment after a while. As a result, the strip will need to replaced when it wears out. There is usually an indicator on the strip to let you know when this needs to be done.
